Welcome to iLab

iLab is dedicated to the proposition that online laboratories - real laboratories accessed through the Internet - can enrich science and engineering education by greatly expanding the range of experiments that the students are exposed to in the course of their education.

Unlike conventional laboratories, iLabs can be shared across a university or across the world. The iLab vision is to share lab experiments as broadly as possible within higher education and beyond. The ultimate goal of the iLab project is to create a rich set of experiment resources that make it easier for faculty members around the world to share their labs over the Internet.

Failure to do this may cause web service calls to lab servers that require authentication to fail. The GUID must be a string used as a Globally unique identifier, maximum length 50 characters. Several tools exist to generate GUID's.In Visual Studio, select Tools->Create Guid. Choose Registry Format, and copy the Guid to the clipboard. Using iLabs on Athena - UPDATE

Problems with using Java-based iLab clients with Firefox on Athena appear to be a result of a browser add-on. This add-on is called "Athena Customizations 1.1" and is enabled by default. We are in the process of determining exactly how this add-on conflicts with our applets. In the meantime, Firefox users on Athena can disable this add-on in order to run Java-based iLab client applets. To do this, open the Preferences window by clicking on Edit -> Preferences. In the Main tab of the resulting window, click on the "Manage Add-ons" button and then click on the "Disable" button associated with the Athena Customizations 1.1 item. After doing this, you will need to restart your browser. This add-on may be re-enabled at any time.

Users may still use the Mozilla browser to run iLab clients from Athena. To do this, using the default window manager click on Menu -> Network/Communication -> World Wide Web -> Mozilla. Alternatively, type "mozilla &" into the Athena terminal and press Enter.

This posting will be updated when more information is available.
